 What is Facebook Developer Garage?

Facebook Developer Garage an International event where local developers and entrepreneurs meet to share ideas, look for partners on a project, experience and participate in Facebook app demonstrations, seek technical support, or just network and socialize with other developers interested in Facebook Platform.

In short; it’s an open conferences, participartory workshop-events for everyone who want to explore more about Facebook Platform, Social Media Marketing and monetize from Facebook Platform!

History
Immediately following the Platform launch at the f8, Facebook Developers Conference, on May 24, 2007, informal, community driven, developer events began emerging around the world. In an effort to support the ecosystem, the events, and the developers involved in them, the concept of the Facebook Developer Garage was conceived.

Philosophy
Facebook Developer Garages are just like they sound – a place to explore, get gritty, tinker, experiment, and test out ideas for Facebook Platform. Being in the Garage is all about participating, getting your hands dirty, and exploring fresh ideas and solutions. Garages should encourage community involvement and incorporate presentations by participants.

Guiding Principles

1. Connect – The purpose of the Facebook Developer Garage program is to unify and expand local Developer communities as well as provide a forum to connect and find support with other developers. Developer Garages should e for the Developers, by the Developers.

2. Empower – Facebook Developer Garages should empower developers to create engaging and relevant experiences on Facebook by showcasing the best tools and offering the most dynamic forums for discussion. They should provide a medium to brainstorm, cultivate, and share new application or development ideas.

3. Educate – Facebook Developer Garages are a place to learn about and discuss the latest and greatest information about Facebook Platform. This may include new products or features, awesome new app ideas, and changes to the existing offerings. Garages should act as an idea exchange from deloper to developer and from developers to Facebook.

4. Be Authentic – Facebook Developer Garages should be authentic to the Facebook experience. Facebook events strive to be unique, engaging and aspirational. Garages should make every effort to be as authentic and exciting as any Facebook event. They should also focus specifically on Facebook Platform and not on general social media topics.

5. Hack – Facebook Developer Garages should act as a venue for innovation on existing ideas and an opportunity to take them to the next level with the help of other developers. Attending a Developer Garage is an opportunity to share technical expertise and build your own collaborative project by hacking onsite with other experienced developers.

6. Collaborate – Facebook Developer Ambassadors should work closely with the Facebook Developer Garage staff to create and approve logos, branding, agendas, event logistics, speakers, and sponsors. Garage hosts should have ownership over their event but cooperate with each other and with Facebook to make the best possible event for everyone.

7. Share – Facebook Garage Ambassadors should embody the Facebook mission, ‘Giving people the power to share, in order to make the world more open and connected’. Ambassadors should also follow our philosophy of Utilitarianism – ‘achieve the greatest good for the greatest number’. All event logistics and content should be based on the needs and desires of the community.

8. Give – Facebook Developer Garages are not-for-profit. Facebook offers a grant to cover most expenses, and doesn’t expect Ambassadors to cover costs out of personal earnings. If additional funding is required, small sponsorships from outside parties are also encouraged. Garages should never be used for personal gain be it monetary or otherwise.
